STORY DISCOVERY

This interactive 12-week novel-outlining group workshop is designed for writers who want to write a novel but aren’t sure how to begin or who have begun but lost sight of the story they’re trying to tell.

Over the span of twelve weeks, we’ll be diving deep into the big-picture elements such as structure, character development, plot, and scene construction.

You’ll learn how to:

  • shape the big picture of your story so that you’re creating a compelling arc with a clear beginning, middle, and end.

  • identify structural turning points and character complexities that promise narrative thrust.

  • create a handy list of escalating conflicts and stakes to ensure you write a story that doesn’t sag in the middle.

Not only will Story Discovery help you gain clarity on your story ideas, but you’ll design a roadmap that pulls your ideas into a three-act story structure that you can use for reference when you’re ready to write your first draft!

This workshop is a great fit for fiction writers who are comfortable sharing their work and receiving feedback in a safe and supportive group environment.

If you’re a fan of plotting or plantsing, you’ll find incredible value in this workshop as the main strategies are based on structure, plotting, and other novel-planning tools.

For the more organic writer who likes to discover the story as they go, this workshop can be useful for testing your ideas for personal and global stakes, scene values, escalating conflict, and reader payoffs.

Get ready to:

  • Discover a writing process that fits you and how you understand and implement the writing craft.

  • Organize your ideas so you can write with creativity, consistency, constancy, and coherence.

  • Learn how to view your story with an objective eye so you can identify “Little Darlings,” plot holes, and implausibilities.

  • Work with like-minded writers who all learn and benefit from each other as you work as a team to construct your individual outlines.

  • Treat your outline like a reference tool so that it helps you stay on track with your plot, create interesting characters that don’t stagnate, and keep you motivated to write and finish your first draft!

How our journey together will unfold:

We’ll gather as a group on Zoom with the overarching goal to craft novel outlines. Be prepared to talk about your story with the other members as well as receiving feedback.

Over the course of 12 weeks, we’ll alternate between a week of story development training and a week of group workshopping, led by me, an expert Dark Forest Adventure Guide!

We’ll tackle essential elements of story creation, learn how to compose an outline that makes sense to how you think about story, and work with story development worksheets customized to your unique idea.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have an outline for your novel and a personalized plan for how to approach your rough draft! You’ll also gain insights and feedback from your fellow writers that can help you as you continue to develop your story.

PRICE: $897 for the 12-week virtual, live group workshop.
